Nowadays, artists and pop stars are being held to a certain regard by their fans. They usually urge them to speak out on certain causes and advocacies that they are passionate about, further utilizing the platform and the influence they wield among their legion of fans.
However, not everyone wants an outspoken artist because of how it messes up one's politics one way or another. Dua Lipa believes that this is the case for most fans and artists.
Dua Lipa Says Fans Don't Want 'Smart' Popstars
Speaking to Rolling Stone about her upcoming new album, Dua Lipa shared about crushing expectations that her fans, and people in general, have about her.
"I don't know if people believe that I like to read books, or people believe that these conversations are my own," she revealed. "I think it's a thing of what people want from their pop stars. They don't want you to be political. They don't want you to be smart. Not that I'm trying to prove myself in that way, but there is so much more to me than just what I do."
In the past, Dua Lipa had spoken out about a lot of social issues and causes.
In 2018, the Albanian native famously expressed her dissatisfaction with Brexit and even made a brave stance in supporting the Sudanese government in their transition to a democratic government in 2019.
Lipa is also a staunch feminist and an LGBTQ advocate. In 2023, she also signed an open letter for the "Artists4Ceasefire" to US President Joe Biden to stop the bombing in the Gaza Strip in Palestine as the Israel-Hamas war ensues.

Dua Lipa New Album 2024
Elsewhere in the Rolling Stone interview, Lipa further talked about what people could expect from her album.
The publication revealed that there would be no features and collaborations on her new album but they noted that it doesn't rule out duets or remixes in the future.
"Sometimes it's hard to explain to someone your vision," she told the publication. "It's also hard to envision someone on it. I think the songs are just so full, and these stories were so personal that I felt like only I really wanted to tell them."
However, the album is rife with contributors including Caroline Ailin, who worked with her on the Grammy-nominated song "Dance The Night", Tobuas Jesso Jr., Danny Harle, and Kervin Parker. Her new songs also include songwriting credits from Julia Michaels, Andrew Wyatt, Billy Walsh, and Ali Tamposi.
