In anticipation of the Chanel Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture show at Paris Fashion Week, Kendrick Lamar's latest venture, "The Button," was released on Saturday, January 20. This three-minute black-and-white film, directed by Lamar's pg Lang partner Dave Free, serves as a prelude to the much-anticipated fashion event scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, at 8 a.m. ET.
The cinematic journey features prominent figures like Naomi Campbell and actress Margaret Qualley, who take center stage in the narrative guided by the creative vision of Lamar and Free. According to pgLang's social media post, the collaboration was initiated at the invitation of Virginie Viard, intertwining the worlds of CHANEL Haute Couture and Kendrick Lamar for the first time. The storyline revolves around the theme of time and transmission, with actress Margaret Qualley embarking on a chaotic journey to the French capital alongside Anna Mouglalis and Naomi Campbell.
Kendrick Lamar, known as K. Dot, not only scores the film but also briefly interrupts the frenetic quest in pursuit of a missing button. The Compton rapper incorporates never-before-heard vocals from an unreleased track, offering fans a glimpse into his musical evolution in 2024. While Lamar hasn't released solo music since 2022's "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers," his presence has been felt through collaborations with Baby Keem and a remix to Beyoncé's "America Has a Problem." This cinematic collaboration marks a unique intersection of fashion and music, showcasing Lamar's multifaceted artistic skills.
