Throughout her music career, Lizzo has collaborated with a lot of musicians and singers, including rappers.

Her latest collab, "Rumors," was with rap royalty Cardi B, which came last 2021 with a Greek art-inspired music video with the two posing as goddesses.

Speaking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Lizzo looked back on the collaboration and spilled some hot tidbits about her experience working with Cardi B.

Lizzo, Cardi B 'Rumors' Collaboration

Apparently, for the "About Damn Time" singer, working with Cardi B was something she had looked forward to for a long time.

Asked about the reason for the huge collaboration, Lizzo said that it was for "selfish" reasons.

"It was very selfish. I very selfishly wanted a song with Cardi for a long time, and I very selfishly wanted to be like, 'B-h, all the rumors are true, whatever you want to believe about me, and f-k you too.' And I did that," she elaborated.

The 34-year-old singer also explained that she needed the song to be released as she was "so excited and proud" about it since it was made.

"Rumors" debuted on the Hot 100 charts at No. 4 and the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at No. 1. Eventually, in 2021, the MTV Video Music Awards nominated the track as "Song of the Summer."

Lizzo described the songwriting process as a "cathartic turning point" in her life. The good thing about "Rumors" was ultimately led the singer to create her upcoming album "Special."

Lizzo New Album 'Special' Release Date, Origins

Lizzo's upcoming fourth studio album, "Special," is coming on Jul. 15, 2022, via Nice Life/Atlantic Records.

According to the GRAMMY-winning artist, the inspiration for writing "Special" came after the Cardi B collaboration, "Rumors."

"Once I actually put that song out, I got a lot off my chest, energetically. Being brought back into the cultural zeitgeist and after becoming famous and having the year that I had, it was interesting seeing how people relate to me and treat me and talk to me."

"Special" is composed of only 12 tracks, one of her shortest albums to date.

Led by her trending song of the summer, "About Damn Time," which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
