In an interview with Seth Myers at "Late Night With Seth Myers," Fey dished out the "Mean Girls: The Musical" casting update that everyone was waiting for.

"We couldn't age out of [our roles]," she told Myers. "Teachers work forever. I do want it to be like when Gilligan from Gilligan's Island was at a trade show and you'd be like, 'Oh, he looks so old in his little hat.'"

Fey wrote the original movie in 2004, which instantly became a cult classic. Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, and Jonathan Bennett famously originated the roles of Cady Heron, Regina George, Gretchen Weiners, Karen Smith, and Aaron Samuels.

In the 2021 musical of the same name, Fey again wrote the book for it and has cast promising artists for the roles.

Erika Henningsen, Taylor Louderman, Barrett Wilbert Weed, Ashley Park, and Kate Rockwell played Cady, Regina, Janis, Gretchen, and Karen, respectively.

As for the 2023 movie musical, Renee Rapp, who notably played Regina in the Broadway musical, will reprise her role in the new film. "Spiderman" actress Angourie Rice will play Cady, "Senior Year" actress Avantika will play the ditzy Karen, while "Love, Victor" star Bebe Wood portrays the "fetch" trendsetter, Gretchen.

Tony-nominated Jaquel Spivy will play Damian Hubbard, the best friend to Auli'i Cravalho's Janis Ian, and "The Summer I Turned Pretty" actor Christopher Briney will play the charming Aaron Samuels on the Paramount Plus Movie Musical. (via Deadline)

The show became a major pop culture classic staple. At the time, it won Lindsay Lohan three Teen Choice Awards for Choice Comedy Movie Actress, Choice Breakout Movie Actress, and Choice Movie Blush. The year after, the same film got three MTV Movie Awards - Best Female Performance for Lindsay Lohan, Breakthrough Female Performance for Rachel McAdams, and Best On-Screen Team for Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried.
