It's been years since Jay-Z last released an album and fans have been waiting for him to drop his next project that's why the online world rejoiced when it was rumored that the rapper might release new music this year. However, his record label, Roc Nation, issued a statement to clarify the matter.
Billboard reported that it all began with director Hidji World who shared an Instagram story where he revealed that he was "shooting today" with the legendary hip-hop artist.
In another teaser, he labeled a film slate with "JAY Z -2024 ALBUM" which fueled the speculations that the rapper might drop new music really soon.
Hidji was included as a director and director of photography. In addition, Leroy Farrell was also a part of the apparent collaboration.
Roc Nation Issues a Statement
NFR Podcast took to X to share the said Instagram story and they captioned the post with "A NEW JAY-Z ALBUM IS BEING TEASED FOR 2024."
However, Roc Nation, the record label that Jay-Z founded, quote-retweeted the post to shut down any rumors.
The label simply wrote on the post: "That's news to us."
As of this writing, Jay-Z has yet to personally react on the matter. He also hasn't shared details about his next album.
If ever the rumors are true, his next project will be a follow-up to his latest record titled "4:44" which was released in 2017. The last music he dropped was "Everything Is Love" with his wife Beyoncé under the group The Carters.
Will Jay-Z Ever Release New Music in the Future?
The musician said in a previous interview that he already used the word "retirement" in the past and he couldn't do it ever again.
"I'll say I wanna make music, but it has to be something important. I don't wanna just make a bunch of tunes. That's not gonna serve me. It won't feed me, first of all," he said.
He further explained that he needed to share an important message if ever and he wanted it to be meaningful to "a larger society."
In a 2022 interview with Kevin Hart, he said at the time that he was not sure about his next steps as he was not actively making music or even creating an album.
"I never wanna say I'm retired. It's a gift and who am I to shut it off?" he added.
