Later this year, the songwriters of "Your Song," "Tiny Dancer," and "Rocket Man" will add another trophy to their already impressive collection when they receive the Gershwin Prize alongside Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song will be awarded to songwriter-performer Elton John and lyricist Taupin, who are regarded by the organization as "one of the great songwriting duos of all time," the Library of Congress announced on Tuesday.
On March 20, at an all-star tribute performance in Washington, D.C., they will be receiving the prize. Parts of it will premiere on PBS on April 8. Some of our favorite songs are those that Bernie Taupin and Elton John wrote.
Congress Librarian Carla Hayden said in a statement, "Their careers stand out for the quality and broad appeal of their music and their influence on their fellow artists."
"Your Song," "Tiny Dancer," "Rocket Man," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Bennie and The Jets," and "Crocodile Rock" are some of their hit songs.

The prize is known as the "nation's highest award for influence, impact, and achievement in popular music," and it bears the names of Jazz Age songwriters George and Ira Gershwin.
Whether he was providing "a mohair suit, electric boots" to "Bennie and the Jets" or referring to Marilyn Monroe, and later Princess Diana, as "A Candle in the Wind," Taupin was, in many ways, John's George Gershwin.
John was the performer, hammering away at the piano and becoming well-known for his elaborate outfits and striking melodies. Among the previous honorees are Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Garth Brooks, Tony Bennett, Lionel Richie, Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, and Tony Bennett.
"I've been writing songs with Bernie for 56 years, and we never thought that that one day this might be bestowed upon us," John said in a statement. "It's an incredible honor for two British guys to be recognized like this. I'm so honored."
"To be in a house along with the great American songwriters, to even be in the same avenue is humbling, and I am absolutely thrilled to accept," Taupin said in a statement.
In 1992, John and Taupin were admitted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. John admitted Taupin to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. This month, John won an Emmy for "Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium," cementing his EGOT title.
