Broadway legend and singer Chita Rivera has died at the age of 91, multiple media outlets confirmed.
Reports cited a confirmation from Rivera's friend and publicist, Merle Frimark, who delivered the news about the loss on Tuesday, January 30.

According to Frimark, as quoted by The Guardian, Rivera's daughter Lisa Mordente confirmed the news to her.
"It is with great sadness that Lisa Mordente, the daughter of Chita Rivera, announces the death of her beloved mother, who died peacefully in New York after a brief illness," she said.
It remains unknown what exactly her illness was that led to her passing.
Rivera, born Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero Anderson, received heartfelt messages from her colleagues and fans following the emergence of the news.
Her supporters took to X to express their heartbreaks over the loss while also looking back at her contributions to the TV, movie and music industries.
One said, "So sad to hear about Chita Rivera's passing. I shall be performing the Big Spender number from Sweet Charity later in my kitchen."
"RIP Chita Rivera. Legend. Icon. A textbook triple threat if there ever was one. You'll be remembered for your amazing spirit, and ferocious talent," a second wrote, while a third chimed in, "Saddened to hear the passing of Chita Rivera. A Broadway legend if ever there was one."
Debbie Allen also shared a photo of herself with Rivera and captioned the post with, "CHITA RIVERA. My Mentor, My Friend, Our Goddess of Inspiration and Joy - Thank You. Every moment of your life has been a treasure of what is possible. I will miss touching you, but I will forever hear your laughter and hold that baton of power you tossed my way."

A Look Back at Chita Rivera's Legacy
Rivera honed her skills as a ballerina at a young age before heading to Broadway and expanding her empire.
As soon as she arrived, she starred in several award-winning shows that scored her different accolades, including 10 Tony nominations. She won two recognitions from the award-giving body: the first was for "The Rink" and the second and last was for her role in "Kiss of the Spider Woman."
Her other works included "Merlin," "Nine," "Chita River: The Dancer's Life," "The Visit" and "Bye Bye Birdie," to name a few.
Years before her death, Rivera received a Tony for lifetime achievement in theatre. She was also a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama and a Kennedy Center Honor.
