Taylor Swift is suffering a major backlash from people on social media after her lawyers threatened to sue a college student who has been tracking her private jet and posting sensitive information on social media.

University of Central Florida student Jack Sweeney was served with a cease-and-desist order by Taylor Swift's legal camp, ordering him to stop his "stalking and harassing behavior."

According to The Washington Post, Taylor Swift's legal camp is cracking down on Jack Sweeney, the person who has been tracking the singer's jet flights and posting them on social media.

Per Swift's lawyers, Sweeney's behavior and actions prompt the singer to live in a "constant state of fear for her personal safety."

"While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client. Ms. Swift has dealt with stalkers and other individuals who wish her harm," the order read, obtained by the publication.

Speaking to Business Insider, Jack Sweeney revealed his reasons why he does such things.

"I think the people are interested," he admitted. "You should have a decent expectation that your jet will be tracked, whether or not I do it as, after all, it is public information."

Since being served with the order, Sweeney has sought legal protection. His lawyer revealed to The Washington Post that Swift's letter was "unfounded" and that Sweeney had "engaged in protected speech that does not violate any of Ms. Swift's legal rights.

On social media, Taylor Swift is receiving backlash for her rather aggressive behavior to stop the student.

"We are sliding into neofeudalism where only the billionaires have rights while everyone else is disposable and subject to legal threats," a user wrote on Twitter/X.

"so her solution isn't taking less flights, it's actually continuing to pollute the fcking environment for everyone just in private, so you can't judge her for destroying the fck out of the ozone layer with each flight because god forbid she doesn't see that giant man every night," another realized.

Swift has faced significant backlash after topping the list of celebrities whose private planes emitted the most carbon in 2022.
