Taylor Swift Announces 'Tortured Poets Department' At Grammys
Taylor Swift announced the arrival of "The Tortured Poets Department" during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album for "Midnights" at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Subsequently, she has already released the album art, the album tracklist, and the release date of the new album.
"I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I've been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19," she revealed onstage. "It's called The Tortured Poets Department. I'm gonna go post the cover backstage."
The album tracklist also revealed that she would be collaborating with Post Malone and Florence + The Machine on two of the tracks.
However, Taylor Swift revealed that if she hadn't won a Grammy Award that night, she'd keep the revelation until "The Eras" Tour in Tokyo!
Taylor Swift Was Supposed To Announce New Album On 'The Eras' Tour
Speaking to her crowd at the Tokyo Dome on her first night of "The Eras" Tour in Japan, Taylor Swift admitted that she was supposed to announce the release date of her new album that night.
"Going in, I had this plan in my head, and I told my friends - I told Jack, but I hadn't really told very many other people," Swift confessed. "I thought, 'Okay, so if I'm lucky enough to get up there and win one thing tonight, I'm just going to do it. I'm just going to announce my new album. And luckily enough, that ended up happening. My backup plan was that I was gonna do it tonight in Tokyo!"
Apparently, the album has been in the works since she turned in "Midnights" for release.
"So I started working on it immediately after that, and I've been working on it for about two years. I kept working on it throughout the U.S. tour, and when it was perfect in my opinion - when it was good enough for you - I finished it," she confessed.
