It's been almost five decades since Gloria Gaynor released her iconic song "I Will Survive" and stood the test of time because people are still listening and referencing it up to this very day. More recently, the legendary gospel singer recalls her legacy and shared her feelings over her upcoming documentary.
The musician spoke in an interview with the Associated Press where she shared how special the song is for her, as she said: "That song, for me, is the core of my purpose, which is to bring hope, encouragement, inspiration and empowerment to people - especially women."
She further explained that the track defines her life at the moment and she thinks that it will be the same for the years to come and will "continue to be about."
Looking back, the musician recalled the time when the song was in its early stages, as she said that the lyrics became her mantra before she even heard the melody.
"It's just a wonderful tool to keep me in check and to keep me grounded and remind me who I am: that I am truly a survivor and that can continue throughout my life," she added. (via ABC News)

Later on, the musician recalled that there had always been gospel music in her household ever since she was a kid, and a big contributor to her loving the genre was her grandmother who was a devout Christian.
Since Gaynor mixed gospel and disco music, she noted that there are two things that revolved around her chosen genre, the first one is it touches the soul of the listener while the other one is just the music.
The legendary singer is expected to release new music this year and she teased that she's been working with "great writers" who were associated with other singers like Kelly Clarkson, Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, and more.
"We got some really good stuff coming out for people," she teased.
Gloria Gaynor 'I Will Survive' Documentary Film
According to American Songwriter, Gloria Gaynor will tell her life story in a documentary titled "Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive" which will hit theaters across the United States only for a night on February 13, 2024.
Directed by Betsy Schechter, the musician will share her story of working on a brand new album for eight years and it will also talk about her fame that began in the 70s until her massive win at the Grammy Awards in 2019.
