Tool's No Phone Policy at Concerts Explained
In 2022, guitarist Adam Jones spoke in an interview with Metal Hammer where he explained why the band wanted fans to keep their phones while they're playing on stage.
"Yeah, I mean, for us, we've actually seen it changing and more and more big acts are asking their fans respectfully to enjoy the show, rather than looking at their camera the whole time," he said.
In addition, there are also issues with lighting because the flash coming from phones makes it hard for the group to see on stage, and with that, they could also lose their connection to their fans.

"It's that connection. You lose something without that connection, and you just want people to be in their own world rather than getting the whole show on their phone and then never looking at it again," he added.
Later on, he added that it's distracting when someone in front of a fan uses their phone the whole time rather than watching the show.
