Beach Boys' Brian Wilson Diagnosed With a Major Neurocognitive Disorder Shortly After Wife's Death

Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson has been diagnosed with a major neurocognitive disorder weeks after his wife's death.

Brian confirmed Melinda's death on Instagram and X, calling his wife of 28 years his "savior" who gave him the emotional security he needed and "one of the strongest women" he had ever known. While the family dealt with the loss, they also disclosed another heartbreaking update concerning the musician.

Brian Wilson Diagnosed With Worrying Health Issue

Wilson's publicist Jean Sievers and business manager LeeAnn Hard revealed in a petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that the 81-year-old musician had been diagnosed with "major neurocognitive disorder." This reportedly led his longtime business partners to seek to become his co-conservators.

He reportedly received his diagnosis weeks after Melinda died on January 30. Per the filing, Wilson is "easily distracted, often even when aware of surroundings and its purpose" and "frequently unable to maintain decorum appropriate to the situation," which were among the signs of his deteriorating health.

However, it also noted he started taking medication to slow the progression of the illness.

After losing Melinda, Brian no longer has anyone to become his primary carer. Thus, someone needs to fill the wife's former role.

Hard and Sievers want to ensure he gets everything he needs at home, though they will not oversee his estate.

"They have had a close relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson for many years, and Mr. Wilson trusts them," the filing read, elsewhere adding, "Mr. Wilson has expressed a preference to appoint Ms. Sievers and Ms. Hard as his co-conservators, and he has stated that he agrees with and consents to the conservatorship."

They reportedly made the decision following careful consideration.

"Brian will be able to enjoy all of his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activities he chooses," it went on.

A result is expected to emerge after the hearing on the petition scheduled in April.

Wilson honored his wife in social media posts and asked everyone to say a prayer for his late loved one.

"We will miss her but cherish everything she has taught us. How to take care of the person next to you with out expecting anything in return, how to find beauty in the darkest of places, and how to live life as your truest self with honesty and pride," a statement from the family said. "We love you mom. Give Grandma Rose and Pa our love."
