Ryan Gosling has been announced to perform "I'm Just Ken" at the 2024 Oscars despite earlier hesitations.
Gosling has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken on "Barbie." Likewise, "I'm Just Ken," written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Ryan Gosling 'I'm Just Ken' Oscars 2024 Performance
When asked about the possibility of performing it in the past, Ryan Gosling has dodged questions and even brushed off the idea of performing his wildly popular Ken song "I'm Just Ken," at the 2024 Oscars.
In an interview with W Magazine in January 2024, Ryan Gosling confirmed whether or not he has been invited to perform at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Channeling his Ken-ergy, Gosling asked if the gig of performing for the Oscars offered monetary compensation, which Margot Robbie, who played Stereotypical Barbie in the film, vocally expressed that she doubted it pays.
"What do you get paid to sing at the Oscars?" Gosling funnily asked. "They pick you up at least, right? You don't have to self-drive?"
"You get a free ride," Robbie answered back. "Uber home, maybe?"
Now, as of late February 2024, it has been confirmed that Gosling will be performing "I'm Just Ken" at the 2024 Academy Awards.
The Daily Mail and Variety sources close to the Academy Awards have confirmed the said tidbit.
Gosling seemed to have hesitated at the idea of performing the song at the Oscars back then.
"It might be too much of a risk to have me do it," Gosling told Variety. "I don't know how that would work. But I'm open to it."
"Barbie" at the 2024 Oscars
Aside from "I'm Just Ken," plenty of nominations went to 2023's biggest motion picture event.
"Barbie" earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera, Best Supporting Actor for Gosling, Best Adapted Screenplay for Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, and Best Picture.
One of the biggest upsets of the nominations ceremony was Gerwig's snub on Best Director and Margot Robbie's snub on Best Actress.
Meanwhile, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS' "What Was I Made For?" is the front-runner for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
