Selena Gomez allegedly plagiarized singer Sarah Bahbah, not just once but twice. What is happening?
Selena Gomez Copying Sarah Bahbah?
The singer has accused Selena Gomez of stealing her creative flair in her most recent music video, "Love On," the problem is, this isn't the first time Selena has faced charges like this.
Back in 2018, her "Back to You" video provoked similar accusations.
Sarah Bahbah is renowned for her distinct approach to photography and her use of captions in her images. She has worked with well-known figures in the field and amassed a social media following. Sarah Bahbah claimed Selena's new video was too similar to her work and voiced her disgust.
Bahbah compared her artwork to parts of Selena Gomez's song video in a thorough video she posted on social media.
She stressed how critical it is to address these concerns, particularly for women of color and self-employed artists like herself. This scandal brings attention to the continuous debate concerning plagiarism and creative integrity in the entertainment business. Even though Bahbah stated she hoped to work with Selena again, she thought calling out what she saw as style emulation was essential.
The accusations have sparked online discussion on the limits of creative inspiration and originality. The ongoing discourse prompts inquiries on the impact of social media and the significance of acknowledging and honoring artists' creations.
Gomez Very Happy
On her part, though, Selena Gomez is just happy with "Love On" these days, seemingly unaware of the backlash it is now causing.
She saw the positivity of her new song, "Love On," spread across her fan base a week after it was released.
She also relished the experience of sharing a happy personal event with her audience through a single. "It's been lovely," Gomez tells Billboard on the general reception to "Love On" after its Feb. 22 release.
"I try not to read too much into things, but I think the whole idea was to make a song that felt good. I feel like I'm in such a light and happy place, and that's reflected in the song."
Gomez claims that she "definitely" has more material with the production/songwriting team The Monsters & Strangerz, who have collaborated with her since her 2013 "Stars Dance" album.
Gomez only wants to "make a great album" in 2024 and continue her film career, regardless of how the track list turns out.
