Pig Destroyer's Blake Harrison Dead at 49: Cause of Death Unclear

Pig Destroyer member Blake Harrison has died. He was 48.

Harrison's friends and bandmates confirmed his passing in their tribute messages after Relapse Records posted a photo of the musician on its Instagram page.

"Rest in Power Blake Harrison [heart emoji]. you were an amazing person and will miss you always," the label captioned the post.

Decibel Magazine posted a similar update on its Instagram page, leaving its followers shocked by the sudden passing of the multi-instrumentalist. Harrison was best known for his time in Pig Destroyer, although he also performed with Hatebeak.

Reptilian Records owner Christoper Xavier Donovan, NOISEM and more expressed their heartbreaks after the passing as the public also learned about his death.

"Fight Like Hell" author Kim Kelly wrote, "Just heard the news about Blake Harrison. Truly a tragic loss; his impact on the grind is immeasurable and his kindness and true love for the scene will not be forgotten. May he rest easy."

"No f------ way! RIP Blake Harrison. It was a couple of weeks ago that we were talking about horror stuff and Misfits. I cannot believe this. It's heartbreaking," one tweeted. "Safe trip, Blake. You were fantastic."

A third added, "RIP Blake Harrison. To the world you were the guy from Pig Destroyer. To me you were the guy I'd sneak smokes to so his girl wouldn't find out. God f------ speed man."

"I just heard the news from home," a fourth wrote. "Blake Harrison was one of the first old heads to make me feel welcome in the scene when I was coming up and was always a joy to catch up with. I wish I could've shot the shit one last time. Rest easy, friend. Until we meet again."

The World Remembers Blake Harrison

Harrison had a history with other bands like Tentacles of God, Zealot R.I.P, Daybreak and Triac prior to his stint with Pig Destroyer.

In 2020, he told Hazy Eye Music Media that he joined the band after booking one of the group's early shows. After having a three-day run with the bandmates, Scott Hull decided to have him on board "to add more of that element to the band.

"I raised my hand and offered up my very novice services. It's still a growing and learning process for me," he went on.
