"It makes me sick to hear the things that I was saying about myself in the beginning. It bums me out," she admitted. "But I think everybody can relate to that feeling. It's important to speak to yourself with kindness, but I don't think I really understood that [at the start of the film].
In the documentary, Gomez talked about her body image issues, her bipolar and lupus diagnosis, and the harsh media attention and scrutiny she received at the height of her career.
According to Gomez, plenty of people cared about her more than she cared about herself and wanted her to do things for which she wasn't ready yet.
"I had my rock bottom, and I had to do it in my time," Gomez revealed. "It took a couple of tries, but I like to think and hope I'm in a much better place now."

Selena Gomez Regretted Her Documentary?
In a The Hollywood Reporter interview in 2023, Selena Gomez revealed her true feelings about the documentary film.
Apparently, she thought long and hard about whether it was a "good idea" to release it.
"And then the moment it was released...I had no choice at that point. And I was relieved. I felt like a huge weight was lifted," she recalled.
However, the film was triggering for many because of how raw and vulnerable the manifestations of her bipolar disorder that were exhibited in the documentary.
"I will never watch it again, but I'm very proud of it. I couldn't have been luckier to have the people that worked on it with me," she concluded.
