No stranger to social media stints, Diplo remains one of the music industry's most absurd, if not entertaining, online figures. Performing in a hot air balloon at Burning Man is only one of his recent stunts. The electronic dance music DJ also famously "escaped" 2023's Burning Man alongside actor and comedian Chris Rock after the chaotic festival infamously took a turn for the worse. The two hitchhiked their way out with a gracious ride from a fan.
Now, the Missouri native is set to begin a new business venture: Diplo's Run Club. The Run Club's website describes the event as a "reimagined 5K series with the ultimate afterparty." After runners complete the 5K race, they'll be treated to a live electronic DJ set and performance from Diplo himself.
"A run never sounded so good," reads the website.
The Run Club emerged from Diplo's experience running a California race while tripping on LSD, or acid. The DJ is an avid runner, but Diplo's Run Club is his first sponsored event.
Diplo's Run Club will debut in September in Seattle and San Francisco. Those who are interested can register online. Standard tickets start at $69, but a "Virtual 5K Experience" costs $79. A VIP ticket will run you a cool $139. Participants can also buy a bundle pack, discounted at 10% per event, which signs them up for both the Seattle and San Francisco races.
The Virtual Experience allows runners to participate from "anywhere in the world" via a tracking app. The team at Diplo's Run Club also sends a "race pack," which includes a custom bib, shirt and "special Diplo gift."
A VIP ticket will earn you side stage access, a special starting corral, exclusive access to concessions, a custom VIP bib number, a line-free experience and free check-in. The event will also have volunteers, who can sign up online for a variety of roles; including finish line support, bike marshall and course marshall.
In San Francisco, the race begins at 9 a.m. at Pier 30 and 32, near the Bay Bridge. In Seattle, runners will also start at 9 a.m. at Gas Works Park. Races must be completed in under 80 minutes, per the website's policy towards participants looking to walk the course rather than run.
After completing the race, runners "dance, sweat, and celebrate life with Diplo at the helm," according to the club's website. The performance is described as not a DJ set, but an experience unlike any other.
Diplo has curated an aptly titled "Diplo's Run Club" playlist, a collection of nine songs which you can find on Spotify. The playlist features tracks and remixes from artists like Young Dolph, the Chemical Brothers and, of course, Diplo himself.
