Sheryl Crow Says Creating Albums is a ‘Waste of Time and Money’ Amid New Record — Here’s Why

Sheryl Crow is set to release a brand new album this week. However, she recently shared her opinions on producing records and her thoughts on how music streaming platforms ruin the music experience for fans; find out below what the singer had to say.

The musician spoke to Red Magazine for an interview, saying that, in her opinion, making albums is "a waste of time and money."

She thought this way because fans don't listen to records "as a full body of work." Despite her views, Crow produced a new album called Evolution, saying that her upcoming songs felt "very timely."

"I thought, 'OK, I'm not going to make a conventional album, thinking about the beginning, middle, and end.' Instead, it's a compilation of new songs," she further explained. (via People Magazine)

Regarding her thoughts on music streaming platforms like Spotify, the singer believes that it ruins the experience for fans because they "cherry-pick songs" that they want to listen to instead of listening to the entire album.

Sheryl Crow Previously Said Her 2019 Album Was Her Last

The recent news comes years after she spoke with NPR in 2019, saying her album, Threads, would be her last.

In the interview, Crow mentioned that she loved making records because she grew up holding physical copies of albums and dreaming of becoming what she achieved later in life.

However, the singer said releasing new albums in the modern world where technology is rampant felt like it became a "dying art form" as people "cherry-pick songs" and then put them on playlists.

"I don't know that the listening audience really ever gets the sense of the full artistic statement," she added.

Will Sheryl Crow Tour This 2024 to Support New Album?

According to USA Today, the singer has a few European concerts in June and will join Pink for her summer stadium shows, but will she ever have a headlining tour to support Evolution?

The musician responded, saying she and her team will try to tour the new album as much as possible.

However, she also wanted to spend more time with her family. Her oldest kid only has two summers with her, and she didn't want to miss anything family-related despite her love for performing.
