Sheryl Crow has been recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2023. But before she was officially inducted, Grammy-winning singer Olivia Rodrigo gave a thrilling duet with her and even presented her with the award.
As the veteran musician bonded with the newbie popstar, she revealed that she had given her an important piece of live advice.
Sheryl Crow Advice To Olivia Rodrigo
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Sheryl Crow raved about working with Olivia Rodrigo for their performance.
Describing the experience to be "really cool," Crow was very supportive of Rodrigo.
"I mean, you know, I got to sort of lift her up a little bit, because she's got a new record [out]... I know how hard the second record is, the sophomore. You're competing with the success of your first record, and she nailed it," she said of Rodrigo's new record, "Guts."
Crow, a celebrated songwriter in her own right, gave Rodrigo a piece of advice that could also help her in her songwriting journey.
"I said, you know, 'If you can, just write down one sentence every day, of what happened during that day, because you will someday look back [at] this, and try to remember all the things.'" she advised the 20-year-old popstar. "The other thing [I told her] is to just stay in the work and stay out of the chatter. That's a major thing."
In return, Rodrigo has nothing but good words to say to one of her idols. In the video montage that played in honor of Crow, Rodrigo praised her lyricism.
"Nobody could say that besides Sheryl. She says things I would have never thought of in the most beautiful way," Rodrigo gushed on Crow's lyric "scrape the mold off the bread and serve you French toast again" from "If It Makes You Happy."
The two performed a duet of the iconic song during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony last Nov. 3, 2023, at the Barclays Center in New York City.
Olivia Rodrigo 'The Real Deal' - Sheryl Crow
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show," Crow also spoke fondly about Rodrigo, telling the host that she is the "real deal."
Similarly, Rodrigo raved about her duet and the honor of presenting Crow the award, like what she did with Carly Simon last year.
"It was an honor to join Sheryl on stage and I am so excited for her to be inducted into the RRHOF! I am a massive fan of hers and her incredible songwriting. She's equally as kind as she is talented and I feel so lucky that I was able to be part of celebrating such a legend," she told Billboard.
