Australian rock legends AC/DC are set to take on a massive European tour this upcoming summer. Dubbed the Power Up tour, the trek will take the band across the continent, including shows in Germany, Slovakia, and the U.K, and is titled after AC/DC's most recent 2020 studio album.
This tour marks the group's first since 2016's Rock or Bust Tour. The band has been together since 1973, taking only a brief hiatus from 2016 through 2018. Their last performance, their first in seven years, was in October 2023 at California's Power Trip music festival. The 2023 festival featured performances from other rock icons such as Guns N' Roses and Metallica.
Chris Dalston, co-head of international touring at Creative Artists Agency, explained the anticipation going into the day that tour tickets were released to the public. Though he anticipated that it would be "one of the biggest tours ever," he conceded that you "never know." He referred to the night before tickets go on sale as being akin to Christmas, rife with nervous and excitement.
And it looks like Christmas came early for Dalston and AC/DC: the Power Up tour sold an astonishing 1.5 million tickets in one day. Dalston referred to the number as "staggering," and said it gave him "great faith" in the band.
He continued, saying that the group doesn't do VIP and avoids dynamic ticket pricing as they "never want to hear fans complaining about ticket prices being too high."
Another key factor that came into planning AC/DC'S European tour's was the weather. The soaring summer temperatures seen over the past few years has wreaked havoc at shows, with concert goers passing out, or even dying. This was something Dalston absolutely wanted to avoid.
He described having to delay previous shows to "11:30 at night because it was still 100 degrees outside," at a show in Seville, Spain. AC/DC are set to perform in Seville at the end of May and beginning of June.
The band's lineup for the upcoming tour will be Brian Johnson on vocals, Angus and Stevie Young on guitars, Matt Laug playing drums, and Chris Chaney on the bass.
Tickets for the Power Up tour are still for sale and can be found through AC/DC's page on Viagogo, a popular ticketing platform.
