Doja Cat Fends off Criticism About Her Natural Hair in New Instagram Rant

Doja Cat has been relatively under the radar in the past few months, but she broke her silence in a new live Instagram session. In her hour-long session, Doja Cat talked about many things, including her hair.

After being compared to other things, such as wool, she explained why her hair is they way it is.

Doja Cat Explains Natural Hair

In an Instagram Live, Doja Cat explained why her natural hair looks like it does.

"I'm seeing a pattern. I'm seeing a consistent pattern in my comments section of people saying is my hair pubic hair, is it carpet or is it sheep's wool," she revealed, as quoted by Hollywood Unlocked. "And it's not even questions ... some people are being like, that's what it is."

Doja says it has been compared "to sheep and pubes and carpet and popcorn and sh-- like that." The Grammy-winning rapper simply explained that her hair is naturally like that.

Doja Cat was born in California to Deborah Sawyer, an American graphic designer of Jewish heritage and Dumisani Dlamini, a South African performer of Zulu descent.

"We gotta move forward. Let's move forward. Let's grow," she urged her Live viewers. "I can't tell you what to do. I'm not your f-king parents. I don't wanna say too much."

Meanwhile, people on X, formerly Twitter, seem to have more positive comments.

"Doja Cat's natural hair is beautiful. Weird that anyone is being weird about it. Her curls look so soft," one wrote.

"Yeah, it's actually extremely racist. Leave Doja alone on this one," another commented.

"Addressing comments comparing her hair to pubic hair, Doja Cat likely responded in a way that asserted her confidence and individuality. Celebrities often face scrutiny and criticism, but how they choose to respond can send powerful messages about self-acceptance and empowerment," another emphasized.

Doja Cat Shaves Her Hair

Doja Cat had people shocked when she debuted her shaved head in 2022. In an interview with TIME magazine, Doja Cat compared shaving her hair to coming out of her own shell as an artist.

"I just realized that hair wasn't for me, unless it was a wig. When I shaved my head, it just gave me this sense of self that was different from any other time in my life. I almost feel like 10 to 15 years younger. I feel like I'm just pushing myself out there and just accepting myself for who I am, no matter who can see me. It's kind of like I ripped off my shell. I feel a lot happier," she added.
