David Bowie Loves The Kinks, Wrote Sleeve Notes For Box Set 'The Essential Kinks'

David Bowie has already written the liner notes to The Kinks' 50th-anniversary collection The Essential Kinks.

The 48-track, two-CD set is due Oct. 14, and Bowie's website just posted a photo of him standing with Ray Davies above the caption, "I've never heard a Kinks song that I didn't like."

For the first time, an excerpt from Bowie's sleeve notes is available. It reads as follows:

"Of course, from their noisy and brash beginnings, the Kinks have come to stand for some of the most enduring and heart-clutching pop of all time," Bowie writes. "They are in the gut of every British song-writer who followed them and are indisputably a cornerstone of everything pop and rock. I love 'em. The world loves 'em."

The site notes that Bowie has released two Kinks covers in his lifetime, "Where Have All The Good Times Gone" (1973) and "Waterloo Sunset" (2003).

The Essential Kinks will be released via Legacy Recordings. Here are the included tracks:
