Kelly Clarkson Sings 'Over the Rainbow' on Kellyoke
The Kelly Clarkson Show is home to one of the most iconic musical television segments, "Kellyoke." The term is a wordplay of Clarkson's first name and the thing she loves the most-karaoke.
The Grammy-winning singer performs a song of her own choice, sometimes a medley, sometimes a mashup, on Kellyoke. Since the segment debuted, Clarkson has given beautiful performances that have had fans hailing her as "otherworldly," among other descriptives.
On her latest episode, Clarkson covered Garland's 1939 song, "Over the Rainbow." The song was famously associated with and part of the 1939 film "Wizard of Oz," in which Garland played Dorothy Gale. (via Cued In)
The ballad, composed by Harold Arlen and written by Yip Harburg, even won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1939.
Clarkson, accompanied by only a guitarist, hoped to see the rainbow as she channeled all the longing and sadness she could muster while wearing the most muted color-black.
Despite the color contrast, Clarkson definitely gave the performance justice with her powerful vocals and masterful choice of riffs and runs.
