Maren Morris was one of the contenders at this year's CMT Music Awards, but many fans were disappointed when she was noticeably absent from the event held on April 8.
The singer however gave a hint as to the reason behind her absence at the the country music awards show, which took place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
As reported by People magazine, the 33-year-old musician could not grace the annual award-giving ceremony because she needed to has another commitment in New York.
She spelled this other commitment out in her social media post.
"Book tour week officially commences. Karina [Argow] and I are flying to New York tonight, so we'll see you Wednesday at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square," she wrote.
The singer just released a children's book called Addie Ant Goes on an Adventure.
Maren Morris, Hozier's Collab Nominated at the CMTs
According to CBS News, Hozier and Maren Morris were nominated for their collaboration duet "Take Me To Church" from the CMT Crossroads.
The two were up for the category of Performance of the Year along with other contenders such as Cody Johnson, Dustin Lynch and MacKenzie Porter, Kelsea Ballerini, The War and Treaty, Carrie Underwood, Bret Michaels and Chris Janson, Amber Riley, and more.
Ultimately, Jelly Roll's "Need a Favor" from last year's event took home the title.
Maren Morris Steps Back From Country Music
Maren Morris announced in 2023 that she didn't want to be involved with the "drama within the community" anymore.
In September 2023, she released two new songs titled "Get the Hell Out of Here" and "The Tree," and at the time, she also announced that she would leave the genre.
"I thought I'd like to burn it to the ground and start over... But it's burning itself down without my help," she told the Los Angeles Times.
One of the main reasons she no longer wanted to be part of the community is the reactions to her being outspoken about her beliefs, like supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and taking a stand for the BLM movement.
"The further you get into the country music business, that's when you start to see the cracks. And once you see it, you can't un-see it," she added.
