2023 was a challenging year for Maren Morris as she received negative reactions from online users following her departure from the music industry and its toxicity, and it was also the same year when she and her ex-husband, Ryan Hurd, divorced after six years of marriage.
Now that 2024 has begun, the singer is looking forward to a new chapter in her work as a musician and in life in general.
Speaking with Billboard ahead of her acceptance of the visionary award of the outlet's annual Women in Music event, Morris explained that last year was when she wanted to let go of things or "changeover."
"I feel like I'm on this precipice of massive, massive change. And the music's certainly reflecting that," she added.
Maren Morris' Plans for 2024
She further noted that her album is not done yet, but she's currently working on something, as she said, "In 2024, not that I've got an album done yet, but by the week [it's] getting clearer and clearer what the theme and the sonics are." (via People Magazine)
This year has also been great for her mental health as she's not overthinking compared to what she did in the past and is not trying to micromanage everything.
As of this writing, Maren Morris has yet to announce her next album, but the outlet noted that the former country star is currently working with famed producer Jack Antonoff, who worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Lorde, and many more.
Maren Morris Left Country Music, Divorced Ryan Hurd in 2023
Per the outlet, Morris shocked fans during her interview with the Los Angeles Times as she revealed that she was stepping back from the country music genre.
The main reason behind it was due to conflicting beliefs, as she received adverse reactions from conservative listeners after she openly supported the LGBTQIA+ community as well as the Black Lives Matter movement.
She also openly called out prominent people in the country music industry, such as Jason Aldean's wife, Brittany Kerr Aldean, after she made transphobic comments.
Regarding her music, she clarified in an interview with Andy Cohen that she didn't leave country music entirely as the genre holds a special place in her, but what she wanted to leave behind was its toxic parts.
Just weeks after, she filed for a dissolution of marriage from Ryan Hurd and cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their divorce. The ex-couple reached a settlement agreement in January 2024.
