2024 Latin Grammy Awards to be Held in Miami
According to Variety, the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards will be held in November 2024 in Miami, Florida, marking its 25th year since its start in 2000.
"Since our first awards presentation in the year 2000, the Latin Grammys have provided an international spotlight for Latin music second to none and provided iconic performances that have become part of global music and pop culture history. We are thrilled to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Miami," Latin Recording Academy CEO Manuel Abud said in a statement. "Miami has evolved to become the epicenter of Latin entertainment and we are grateful for the community support and enthusiasm we have received."
The Kaseya Center in Miami has previously hosted the Latin Grammy Awards in 2003 and 2023, making the upcoming ceremony its third time hosting the prestigious ceremony.
"We are excited to bring to life the landmark 25-year celebration of the Latin Grammys from the city we call home - the city where Hispanic culture has flourished as a driving force of influence and impact globally," President of Univision Television Networks Group at TelevisaUnivision Ignacio Meyer revealed. "As the Home of Latin Music, we're excited to deliver yet another unforgettable night of excellence in music, grounded in our passion and unwavering commitment to shining a bright light on the most culture-defining moments for Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide."
As of this writing, it is unknown why the Latin Recording Academy is moving back to the United States after striking a "three-year sponsorship deal" between the board of Andalusia and the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Latin Grammys Added New Categories
In March 2024, it was announced that new Latin Grammy Award categories were added - Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album and Best Latin Electronic Music Performance.
The move to add new categories came after the Academy was severely criticized for its lack of representation of Mexican music.
Despite being one of the biggest artists of 2023, Peso Pluma's "Genesis" was seemingly snubbed in the race for Album of the Year. However, this could be because of eligibility issues with deadlines.
However, some critically acclaimed albums, like Eslabon Armado's Desvelado and Carin Leon's Colmillo de Leche, which were submitted within the deadline, were snubbed in the top prize race.
