Taylor Swift's new single has Fortnite gamers clamoring for a collaboration with the platform.
Along with the release of her new double album, The Tortured Poets Department, the singer shared its lead single, "Fortnight," featuring Post Malone. The album opener will also get its own music video, released on Friday night.
Artists like The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Travis Scott, and Ariana Grande have also worked with the platform in the past. The concert features allow Fortnite players to use their image and likeness as a "skin" within the game, enabling them to dance to several of their tracks.
The game could potentially host a "Fornite Festival" for Swift, allowing users to play in the game as her while they play new songs from The Tortured Poets Department, as well as some of her greatest hits.
Swift's song is actually spelled "Fortnight," which is a word used to describe a two week period. In the song, she sings: "And for a fortnight, there we were, forever running / 'Til you sometimes ask about the weather / Now you're in my backyard, turned into good neighbors / Your wife waters flowers, I wanna kill her."
Although the song does not have any connection to the actual game, it did not stop fans from assuming that a special Swift partnership might be coming soon.
"Big names like Lady Gaga and the weeknd have headlined this mode, Ariana Grande has been a part of the game and had her own collab, and artists that Taylor works closely with like Sabrina Carpenter and Bleachers just joined the game as well," a user posted on X, formerly Twitter.
"I'd actually be shocked if Taylor Swift isn't announced as the next Fortnite Festival Collab," another speculative gamer wrote. "I understand the devs aren't a fan of hers but considering her new album is coming out, it would be a perfect promo opportunity."
Others shared on social media that the album would be a perfect crossover between their passion as a Swiftie and as a Fortnite player.
"Manifesting Taylor Swift next Fortnite festival icon pls," another fan wrote. "Give us a Taylor skin and songs. I beg I'd peach so hard I'd buy all the vbucks."
While the album is being met with big streaming numbers and broad acclaim, some Fortnite fans were not too excited about the idea of Swift joining the platform.
"If Taylor Swift does come to Fortnite Festival I might actually just stop playing until she's gone," a disgruntled gamer wrote.
Other's pointed out that the lyrics "Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto" comes too close to Lana Del Rey's "Video Games" single.
"Taylor Swift will never be Lana even if she's trying to appeal to the gaming community by singing about Fortnite," a social media critic said.
Many believe that Swift's new single is about Matty Healy from the popular band The 1975. They had a brief relationship in 2023, which was controversial among Swifties.
