Rapper NBA YoungBoy Still Jailed in Utah
NBA YoungBoy, formally known as Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, has been kept in jail after he was arrested on drug fraud charges.
According to KMYU, Gaulden has been accused of having his friends and family purchase prescription medicines through fake prescriptions in Utah's Cache County. He has been accused of obtaining promethazine with codeine from pharmacies.
The 24-year-old rapper was taken into custody on April 16, and is facing 46 charges, which included patterns of unlawful activity, unlawful conduct-pharmacy practices, identity fraud, and forgery. Gaulden has been living in Utah on house arrest for federal weapons charges.
NBA YoungBoy Arrested Over Failed Scam Attempt
Officers from Utah revealed that Gaulden was busted because of his accent and pronunciation. Cache County officer Tysun Hryum Nielsen revealed that Gaulden was pretending to be an elderly woman named Gwendolyn Cox to obtain prescription drugs.
"During the conversation with 'Gwendolyn,' it was very clear that a fake voice was being used," Nielsen wrote in an affidavit AllHipHop obtained. "'Gwendolyn' sounded as though she was a much younger male from the southern states ... Kentrell Gaulden continued to attempt to further the prescription fraud by talking about the prescription and saying 'she on the hospital bed,' referring to the patient 'Gwendolyn Cox' from the previous day."
Nielsen pointed out in the affidavit that Gaulden used the word "axe" instead of "ask" during their conversation. Similarly, "Gwendolyn" used the word "axe" in their separate conversation.
"Based on my training and experience and having lived in the Southern United States, using the term 'Axe' in place of ask is a common southern dialect," he added.
A judge has scheduled Gaulden's pre-release trial for April 29, but he will remain behind bars until then.
