Bon Jovi released "Livin' on a Prayer" in 1986; since then, it has become the band's most iconic song. Millions of fans worldwide have adored it and received several renditions from other artists. However, frontman Jon Bon Jovi revealed that he wasn't impressed with the track upon writing it.

The musician spoke to People magazine for a cover story where he reflected on his 40-year career in the music industry. During the conversation, he revealed shocking info about the hit track, saying he didn't initially connect with it.

"It wasn't that I didn't want to record it, but I wasn't all that impressed on the day that we wrote it," he said.

He explained that it had to do something with how it sounded because of its "simple chord progression" and melodies and lyrics.

Fortunately, he still pushed it, and the group decided to record a demo, adding, "The bass line came to life in the demo studio when we took it back to the band and worked it up... That's how it became what it is."

"It's one of the biggest songs in our catalog," he added.

Jon Bon Jovi Shares Touring Future After Surgery

Decades have passed since the hit track was released, but the sound of Jon Bon Jovi's live vocals isn't the same anymore, especially after he underwent vocal surgery. Earlier this month, the singer gave fans an insight into his touring future.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he revealed that he's working hard every day to recover from the operation, and he undergoes vocal therapy.

"Nothing else matters until I work on getting better. It's up to God at this point. I've done everything I can do," he said.

Regarding his band's plans to tour in the future, he said he's not giving up and wants to be as authentic as possible, as he doesn't want to "fake it" because their legacy is important.

"I won't compromise who we are as a band live, because I'd like to think we're a pretty darn good band," he said.

Why Did Jon Bon Jovi Undergo Vocal Surgery?

As reported by Blabbermouth, Jon Bon Jovi explained that the reason why he underwent vocal surgery was due to one of his cords being "atrophied."

He noted that his vocal cords were supposed to be parallel, but one became thinner than the other.

"The strong one was pushing the weak one aside. And I wasn't singing well. So my craft was being taken from me," he added.
