Campy 90's Horror Flick 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Is Getting A Reboot

Nearly 20 years ago, campy horror flicks were super-popular thanks to the crazy success of a not so little film called Scream. Not only did that make a mint but it also paved the way for a new breed of classic horror films with I Know What You Did Last Summer leading the pack. It was centered on four teenagers who accidentally ran over a pedestrian in the summer of 1996. The following year a hooded killer decided to exact revenge on the teens- hence the movie title. The original film grossed $120 million worldwide and spun off two sequels. Fans will be thrilled to learn that the original is going to be rebooted in 2016.

Apparently Sony has commissioned the reboot, and it's being viewed as a "high priority." Writer/director Mike Flanagan has been hired to lead the project with Jeff Howard singing on as co-writer. I Know What You Did Last Summer was originally based on a 1973 book by Lois Duncan and the original 1997 film starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe, who have all spent the last 17 years working in Hollywood in some capacity.

Sony thinks that enough time has passed to reboot this now cult classic hit and serve it up fresh to a brand new generation. Obviously they are hoping to appeal to teens and twenty-somethings that weren't around for the original move and they are also hoping that curiosity will bring minted fans back to the theater to see this updated version.

There has been no word yet on casting, so who in young Hollywood would do well in the updated I Know What You Did Last Summer? Should they look for undiscovered talent to cast instead of people that are already familiar?
