For so long, female rap beef has been a constant point of conversation on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), where most of these rappers' fans clash.
Coi Leray, who has been involved in various dramas with other female rappers in the past, shares her thoughts on who she thinks initiates these controversies.
Coi Leray Claims Record Labels Start Female Rap Beef
In X, Leray voiced out her unfiltered thoughts on April 28 about the recurring drama in the female rap scene.
"Idk if you ask me it seem like these labels are behind the female controversy. They see it helps push the music , I wouldn't be surprised if they the ones behind the fan pages," she said.
Leray's statement ignited a conversation on social media, with some of her fans agreeing on her honest take.
"They behind a lot of what's happened over the last 2 decades, the good & the bad. Anything I do, I'd rather it be ME doin it w lil to no help. I hate ppl bein in my ear saying "this is better" or "I don't really like this idea". Mf ian doin this for you to like it but for me to," one pointed out.
"100 percent I believe they be in the artists ear telling them stuff to reinforce the beef," another shared.
Leray followed up with a curious question - "Do female pop stars have just as much beef as the female rappers ? I'm curious." The "Blick Blick" rapper also wondered, "Most of these female rappers not even from the same places !!!! Not from the same hoods....why are we beefing?"
"that's why it's called show business It's all strategy to keep them relevant in the game," a user answered.
Meanwhile, a netizen compared Leray's explorative thought to how other people generally perceive male rap beef.
"Why not?.. is hiphop only hiphop when the males beef?.. why everyone actually get excited with the male beef but wanna get all emotional with the female hiphop beef?.. that's why men will always keep hiphop alive.. females too damn emotional and wanna hold hands and sh*t..," someone said.
Coi Leray Disgusted with Female Rap Beef
This wasn't the first time that Leray talked about her distaste for female rap beef.
In an interview obtained by Just Jared, Leray said in a 2023 interview that rap beef is "starting to get old."
"The rap beefs are for the guys. You know, I don't even think they should do it. Us artists, we kind of control the narrative. So if we just spend more time pushing that narrative we won't give these headlines and these blogs no reason to go ahead and push this negative narrative. That's something we got to come together on," she added after reacting to being name-dropped on Latto's "Put it on Da Floor."
