Billie Eilish fans were rattled this morning when her concert ticket prices dropped.
This September, Eilish will be embarking on her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, supporting her album that comes out this May. The extensive tour has begun its presale and fans are taking issue with the initial pricing.
As tickets become available, it has been revealed that the face value for some goes up to a whopping $499.50. While the cheapest level of ticket comes in at $59.50, the prices do not include the excessive amount of fees that audiences have frequently criticized Ticketmaster for. Other price points include $69.50, $99.50, $179.50, $199.50, $299.50, and $399.50, NJ.com reports.
Fans are now taking to social media to slam the tour's prices, labeling them as "hideous" and "gross" as others struggle to justify spending money on them. One fan even revealed that the prices are "more than their weekly rent."
"I have never seen more hideous concert ticket prices until Billie Eilish oh my god," one fan shared.
"Billie Eilish I love u with my whole heart but these ticket prices are not it baby girl," another disappointed critic shared.
The tour features a unique, 360 stage where Eilish will be completely surrounded by fans as she performs on a rectangular stage in the middle of the pit. However, fans have also taken issue with the price of standing tickets, condemning the price for admission without a seat.
"I paid £60 for standing tickets in the same venue where prices for Billie Eilish standing tickets are £145?? make it make sense," another social media user complained, noting that standing tickets would come out to around $180 in USD.
Some fans did come to Eilish's defense, arguing that her sustainability goals for the tour could be contributing to the high prices. The effort includes venues pledging to reduce food waste and to provide plant-based food at each performance.
"Hate ticket price discourse but billie eilish's higher prices (i think anyway) are kind of justified since she's trying to make it more sustainable.... like i imagine the eco-villages she's putting in arenas are employing & therefore she's paying more staff for every show," one fan said.
Other fans stated that those who give in to the outrageous prices are "part of the problem," calling for a boycott of concerts that charge high ticket prices.
"People paying nearly £145 for Billie Eilish tickets are part of the problem. When these venues sell out at those prices artists and promoters couldn't care less as they're getting away with it. Fans are being completely priced out of these events and it's only getting worse," they stated.
As concerns for high concert ticket prices have been a popular debate in recent months, here's how the prices for Eilish's concert compare to another hot ticket - Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.
When tickets for the Eras Tour originally went on sale in November 2022, they ranged from $49 and $499, prior to fees. Therefore, Swift's tickets were not any more expensive than what Eilish is selling hers for. While the cheapest ticket was $10 less, Swift plays stadiums - as opposed to Eilish performing in arenas - which leads to more seats that could be farther away from the stage.
Resale tickets for the Eras Tour skyrocketed, with Sporting News reporting that they could be sold for up to $11,000. In order to combat this, Eilish teamed up with Ticketmaster to place a hold on each ticket, which does not allow them to be sold for more than its face value.
