Jimmy Kimmel jokingly called Travis Kelce Taylor Swift's poor boyfriend.
According to the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs player recently made history as the league's highest-paid tight end after securing a $34.25 million contract.
The new deal could push his net worth, currently at $50 million, to new heights, though Kimmel chose to poke fun at the athlete's recent milestone.
Travis Kelce Is Taylor Swift's "Broke Boyfriend"
On a recent episode of his Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel commented on Kelce's recent deal and joked about him being poor, compared to his girlfriend Taylor Swift, that is.
"His new contract is worth $34 million, or as Taylor Swift calls it, 'gum money,'" said Kimmel. "Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34 million and you're still the broke boyfriend?"
He added, "You could be one of the great players of all time and this is the reaction you get to your contract extension."
The 56-year-old host also read social media comments about Kelce, with users calling the athlete "so babygirl," "pokiest pookie," and more names.
While Kimmel joked about Kelce and his deal, there is no denying that the new NFL contract was massive.
What to Know About Travis Kelce's Recent Career Win
As reported by The Associated Press, the $34.35 million deal included the $17 million guaranteed for 2024 and the $11.25 million guaranteed for 2025.
While details about the condition have yet to be disclosed, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said it was a priority to adjust Kelce's contract after his previous four-year, $57.25 million extension in 2020. He also had a $46 million, five-year deal in 2016.
"Hard to put into words what Travis means to this organization and this city," Veach said via Zoom. "Just a really special day and moment for this organization to once again recognize arguably one of the greatest tight ends to ever do it."
On the "New Heights" podcast, Kelce admitted he informed his team he wanted a pay raise despite knowing it could be a significant negotiating disadvantage.
"I'm not a guy that sits out," Kelce said. "I'm not a guy that holds out. I'm a guy that loves coming into the building, and the Chiefs know that. So, for them to want to get this done for me knowing how much blood, sweat and tears that I put into this thing, I'm extremely grateful."
