Wolfgang Van Halen reflected on the death of his father, Eddie Van Halen, and disclosed where he keeps his ashes.
The music industry suffered a massive loss when Eddie died on October 6, 2020, following his battle with throat cancer. He was diagnosed with the dreaded disease two decades before his passing, and he endured more health issues in the years thereafter.
Years after the loss, Wolfgang opened up about the rocker's final moments and how he has been keeping him close at all times.
Wolfgang Van Halen Talks About Eddie Van Halen's Ashes
Wolfgang reminisced his memories with Eddie on the Thursday, May 2, episode of his Behind the Music on Paramount+. Here, he talked about where he placed his father's ashes.
Wolfgang disclosed he keeps Eddie's ashes on the necklace he has been wearing, reminding himself that his father is always with him all the time.
Eddie's remaining ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of his hometown of Malibu, Calif., in honor of his wishes.
He also took his time to share what happened the day his father died.
"I was at a movie. I got a call from my dad when I was in the movie. I got a voicemail and I didn't understand it. He was unlike himself," Wolfgang recalled. "I immediately called Al [Alex Van Halen] and he tells me that Dad fell off his bike while they were driving and they're at a hospital at Agora Hills. Something was wrong with his brain."
The 33-year-old Mammoth WVH frontman added, "He couldn't get through a sentence because something was wrong with his brain. He had a brain tumor. It's not easy to see someone you look up to as a pillar of strength - and have to be that pillar of strength yourself."
Wolfgang soon woke up to a doctor's phone call and received advice that he should get over to Eddie's hospital room. He reportedly held the "Can't Stop Lovin' You" hitmaker until he told him "I love you" and took his last breath.
Wolfgang Van Halen Says Losing Father Affected Him Greatly
Elsewhere in the documentary, Wolfgang noted how his life has been after losing his father.
"That morning was one of the worst mornings of my life," he declared. "There's a noticeable absence of love in my life - which is such a selfish thing to say because I have so many wonderful people in my life. But that's how much he loved me. The absence of that is like a black hole in my body and I could never recover. I could only ignore those feelings."
