Reports have suggested Doja Cat might not receive an invitation to this year's MET Gala given last year's debacle, but they were proven wrong. The rapper-singer therefore took the opportunity to captivate fans with her comical take on the theme of this year's star-studded event.
Stepping out of The Mark Hotel alongside Vetements creative director Guram Gvasalia, she commanded everyone's attention with her rather literal take on this year's theme: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."
While the theme is different from the dress code, Doja Cat creatively put a spin on her outfit before climbing the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Doja Cat seemed to have just stepped out of the shower, wearing nothing but a towel on her body and one on her head. To complete the look, her eye makeup was dripping as if it had been watered down in the shower.
However, Doja Cat's official MET Gala outfit was actually a different one. According to Entertainment News Online, Brett Alan Nelson styled Doja Cat, who wore a dripping-wet T-shirt dress that accentuated her beautiful curves. She graced the carpet with Gvasalia once more.
Despite the water that seemed to soak her dress, the MET carpet was far from wet. It showcased Doja Cat's incredible creativity in channeling this year's dress code, "The Garden of Time."
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Doja described her look in as much detail as possible. "I know that people are gonna do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most used flower and its cotton. I wanted to do a white t-shirt, also because a white t-shirt is timeless, and it felt very poetic to choose this," she explained. "I knew that I wasn't going to blend in too much and I don't really like to blend in, so we went with this."
As the interviewer appreciates Doja Cat's "wet" outfit, they asked if she got drenched in water before walking the carpet, but the "Kiss Me More" rapper revealed the ultimate secret to her outfit. "I am actually wet right now, this is water," she said before revealing that it was actually hair gel beneath her dress.
Doja Cat's presence at the 2024 MET Gala surprised some, given previous speculation that she might not receive an invitation anymore for this year following an incident where she was seen vaping at the event last year.
Videos of Vogue editor Anna Wintour explaining her deal-breaker of getting an invite to the show have surfaced, where she says that smoking is her No. 1 no-go.
