Police are investigating a shooting outside of rapper Drake's home in The Bridle Path, a wealthy residential neighborhood in Toronto.
Emergency authorities were called to the house, which sits in Park Lane Circle, around 2.a.m. on Tuesday morning. The suspect reportedly fled the scene of the crime in a vehicle.
The 48-year-old victim was confirmed to be a member of Drake's security team. The man, who was taken to the hospital by emergency services, is currently facing serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Per Toronto police, he was reportedly "standing outide the gates of the home" when he was shot at 2:09 a.m.
Rumors are swirling as to whether the shooting is related to Drake's ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar, but no member of either camp has stepped forward to speak on the incident.
Online, some rap fans took the shooting as an excuse to make quips on Drake's behalf.
"That's a cover up--Drake set this up," wrote one X user. Another claimed that Drake is "trying to get not like us removed so bad he shooting at himself." Drake reportedly tried to have the song "Like That," featuring Lamar, taken down, leading some to think he may react the same to "Not Like Us."
Another chided Drake for claiming he has "Mob Ties" but "got touched in his own city."
Others believe that the shooting is either the rap feud "gone too far." Some see the situation as entirely unrelated to the messy feuds, but believe that the beef will remain the center of the conversation.
"I hate how the media and people on the TL are going to make this shooting at Drake's house somehow be tied to the beef with Kendrick. They've been feasting for a Tupac, Biggie kind of situation for decades now. This isn't that," posted X user @KevCoke6.
Another netizen mused that this shooting is in relation to another incident that occurred at the home of Cash XO, who manages the Weeknd. Drake recently dissed Cash on his song, "Push Ups." On the track, he raps, "Cash blowin' Abel bread, out here trickin'," insinuating that Cash is spending the Weeknd's money on sexual favors from women.
"If you were to tell me The Weeknd and Drake were shooting at each others houses in 2016 I wouldn't believe you," shared @destroynectar. Someone replied in confusion, to which destroynectar responded, "Yeah xo house was being robbed a few days ago now rounds went off by drakes house."
On April 29, a security guard at Cash's home was injured after being shot by an intruder. Police believed the situation to be unrelated to Drake or Lamar, and rather just an attempted robbery. Both the rapper and singer are natives of Toronto; the events have not been publicly linked together by any authorities.
Drake was last seen online on Sunday, when he posted "The Heart Part 6." The track was his response to Lamar's fiery "meet the grahams" and "Not Like Us." Drake accused Lamar of domestically abusing his longtime partner, Whitney Alford, and Lamar accused Drake of being both a pedophile and deadbeat father. He further alleged that Drizzy is hiding an 11-year-old daughter from the public eye.
Police are currently investigating the shooting, and have blocked off the roads surrounding the home.
