An obituary shared online confirmed Goldberg's death, which stated that she passed away on April 3, 2024, in La Jolla, California. Her cause of death was said to be pulmonary embolism.
The musician's ex's last social media activity was in May 2023, when she shared a photo of herself lying on a hospital bed and wrote the text "I lived b****" across the image.
In the caption, she revealed that she had cancer and had since recovered from the illness, writing, "I have had cancer for the past year. I am now cancer free."
People magazine reported that Goldberg dated Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, for two years before he passed away. She took to her Instagram account to pay tribute to her ex-boyfriend in an emotional post.
"'Come on babe, don't give up on us. Choose me, and I'll show you love.' Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me," she wrote in the caption, adding that she wished she could've lived up to the words.
"For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can't look at Bear without knowing I'll never see his face again," she added.
Goldberg continued by saying that she was still collecting her thoughts at the time and quoted her ex's song, adding, "Wake me up when it's all over."
The recent news comes six years after Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman. He was only 28 years old. He reportedly died of suicide.
His father, Klas Bergling, told CNN in an interview that they didn't think the suicide was planned, but there were a lot of factors that "brought him out of his control."
He also noted that both of them would often have conversations about his struggles and mental health, and he appeared to be "happy" before his tragic death.
Prior to his death, Avicii announced that he would retire from touring. Although he felt "blessed" to travel the world to perform, he realized he wanted to focus on his personal life as there was "little time" to explore them.
