Dearest readers, the esteemed members of the Ton have made quite an exciting announcement: The third season of Bridgerton will debut its first-ever original song.
Netflix's hit show is known for its orchestral versions of hit pop songs, such as Taylor Swift's "Wildest Dreams," Robyn's "Dancing On My Own," Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy," and Rihanna's "Diamonds." The lush, string-heavy covers are used throughout the show, from the all-important ballroom dances to the numerous scenes of romantic and sexual tension, imbuing the Regency-era drama with a relatable, modern soundtrack.
But the highly anticipated third season, which premieres on May 16, will include a first for the series: an original song. Grammy winner Tori Kelly, 31, who also voiced Meena in Sing and Sing 2, contributed her new song "All I Want" to the show, according to People. It will also appear as an orchestral version, arranged by frequent Bridgerton composer Kris Bowers, during the second half of the season.
"The fact that this is the first time an original song has been a part of Bridgerton makes the whole experience feel even more special!" Kelly told People. "I'm so excited that I get to be a part of this amazing show in my own way."
The single will be available on all platforms on June 7, ahead of its debut on the show. Bridgerton will be released in two segments, Part 1 on May 16 and Part 2 on June 13.
Season 3 of the series is based on the fourth book in Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. It will follow the friends-to-lovers romance of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, who moonlights as the popular gossip Lady Whistledown.
Tori Kelly is a singer-songwriter who won two Grammy awards for her 2018 album Hiding Place. She has competed on American Idol and The Masked Singer, and served as an advisor or mentor on both American Idol and The Voice. Her latest album, Tori, was released April 5.
Netflix also announced a few orchestral covers that will be featured in the Part 1 of Season 3. They include Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever," BTS' "Dynamite," Gayle's "abcdefu," Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," Nick Jonas' "Jealous," Sia's "Cheap Thrills," and "Snow On the Beach" by Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey.
