Kelly Clarkson spoke candidly about her dating struggles following her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
The Kelly Clarkson Show welcomed Tiffany Haddish to its latest episode, during which Clarkson spoke about her dating life and struggles in finding new romance because she "gets nervous" all the time.
"It's awkward," Clarkson told Haddish, who encouraged her by showering her with compliments. "It's not that I don't think I'm a prize, I just find it awkward, and it's the same things - 'Where did you grow up?'"
The American Idol winner added that she does not think she has dated much since ending her marriage to Blackstock, whom she met in 2006. The ex-couple wed in October 2013 and welcomed two children, River Rose and Remington Alexander, during their marriage.
Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020 and entered a lengthy legal battle with Blackstock afterward.
While Haddish tried to help Clarkson change her perspective on dating, the "Stronger" hitmaker revealed why she could not be on the dating scene.
"I love adventure, but I'm gonna be real with you - there's not a lot of time for adventure, 'cause I'm a single mom, so there's not a lot of time," Clarkson went on. "I'm at work. And then when I get home, I'm just me, doing all the homework and the things."
Although they reportedly have a nanny, the "A Moment Like This" singer revealed she remains hands-on with her kids when she is at home.
Clarkson's comment resonated with what she told People in January, calling dating an "awkward" activity.
"I was single until I was, like, 30, and I forgot how really good at that I am. I told a friend [that a potential partner] would have to be an individual that brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me," she went on. "It's far more romantic to say, 'I want you, but I don't need anything.' I'm really good right now, I'm having a good time."
She previously told Hoda Kotb she had never been on a date in two years because she started "loving not having a man" in her life.
Clarkson said in a separate published interview how happy she has been feeling with everything she has now: her kids, family, friends and her current gigs.
