Madonna delivered an emotional Mother's Day story by remembering her mother's final days.

On Sunday, May 12, Madonna shared a lengthy post featuring a carousel of photos taken during her tour. The Queen of Pop emotionally recalled how she did not know her mother was dying when she was 5 years old.

"I stepped into the station wagon and shut the door, not knowing it was the last time I'd see her," she wrote. "Nobody told me my mother was dying - I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously and then she disappeared and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep which explains My Tumultuous relationship with sleep."

Madonna wrote in her post that she always looked up at her mother's face every time she got up on stage, adding, "I said hello I said goodbye. I said Thank you. I hope you're proud of me. I said Please protect me and keep me sane."

Madonna's mother, Madonna Louise Ciccone, died after he battle with breast cancer in 1963. She was only 30 at the time.

The "Back That Up To The Beat" singer, 65, is now a mom to six kids. She revealed in her post that she and her children - Lourdes Leon, Rocco Ritchie, Banda, Mercy James, and twins Stella and Estere - got closer as they experienced touring together.

"No Easy way into the motherhood game. No manual or University Just trial and error and learn and succeed and then fail again. Finally the realization that they were raising me and not the other way around," wrote Madonna. "I always laugh with friends and say motherhood = suffering. But it's not a joke it's the truest thing I've ever said. But I wouldn't change it for anything."

The "Material Girl" hitmaker ended her post by quoting James Baldwin's quote, "All the children belong to us, every one of them," before greeting everyone with a Happy Mother's Day.

Madonna honored her kids by getting her wrist tattoo in December 2020, featuring each of the children's initials.

In a January 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, she opened up about motherhood and how it became the "most difficult, the hardest battle," for her.
