Celine Dion was moved to tears while attending The Rolling Stones' Las Vegas show, following her hiatus from the limelight. The 56-year-old singer, who had to halt her tour due to stiff person syndrome, was caught on camera wiping away tears during the band's performance at The Allegiant Stadium last Saturday.
Her emotions were palpable as The Stones played "Jumpin' Jack Flash," a song Mick Jagger once explained as being about overcoming tough times.
Throughout the concert, Celine Dion visibly connected with the music, dancing along to the band's iconic hits like "Paint It Black," "Sympathy For The Devil," and "You Can't Always Get What You Want," closing the night with "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction."
In December 2022, the acclaimed artist disclosed her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome, a rare condition characterized by alternating muscle spasms and rigidity in the torso and limbs. This revelation prompted her decision to step back from performing.
In the April 2024 interview with Vogue France, the Canadian songstress delved into the complexities of the neurological disorder, which leads to progressive muscular stiffness. Since her diagnosis, she has largely withdrawn from touring, though she surprised audiences with a cameo at the Grammys in February, receiving a thunderous standing ovation.
"I haven't conquered the illness; it remains within me and likely always will. I'm hopeful for a breakthrough in scientific research, a cure, but for now, I must adapt and live with it," Dion shared with Vogue France. "Five days a week, I engage in rigorous physical and vocal therapy. I focus on my toes, knees, calves, fingers, singing, voice... I've come to accept it and cease questioning why. Initially, I would ponder: why me? How did this happen? Is it my fault?"
The renowned artist's surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards in February marked her return to the public eye after an extended absence. Stepping onto the stage to present Taylor Swift with the Album of the Year Award was a poignant moment for fans who had missed her presence.
Reflecting on her future in performance, Celine recently addressed the lingering question of whether she will grace the stage again. In her candid response, she admitted, "I can't answer that.... Because for four years I've been saying to myself that I'm not going back, that I'm ready, that I'm not ready."
She added, "As things stand, I can't stand here and say to you: 'Yes, in four months.' I don't know... My body will tell me."
Fans who would like to know more about Celine Dion and her battle with her condition should watch her upcoming documentary I Am: Celine Dion on June 25. The singer herself announced that a few days prior, or on June 21, the soundtrack will be released. As early as now, fans can pre-save, pre-add the album on streaming services or pre-order the physical copy.
