At 77, pop music icon Cher reportedly has plans to marry her boyfriend, music producer Alexander "AE" Edwards, who is 39 years her junior
According to a Radar Online source, Cher, known for her lavish lifestyle and grandiose image, wants to throw an "obscenely expensive" wedding when she marries Edwards. However, her children, Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman are reportedly against it.
"Cher is aware how her kids feel about her romance -- and they've had some blowout arguments over it, but this is her life and she wants to get married," a source told the National Enquirer.
Cher's children "haven't accepted" their mother's plans to throw a big bash. "They think AE's bad news and that he's just looking to take their gullible mom to the cleaners," the source added. "If she does go through with this silly thing, they hope she has an iron clad prenup."
Cher, who was previously married to Sonny Bono and then Gregg Allman, reportedly wants this to be her "last wedding," adding that she has "every right to have one fit for royalty,"
"She loves to spend summers in Europe and the thought of getting married in an old castle really appeals to her, like a scene out of [the movie] Love Actually. She wants a ceremony that lasts several days with live music and an unforgettable party," the source furthered.
The report also included information that the "Believe" singer plans to invite at least 300 people to her grand wedding and fly everyone in a private jet.
"Cher is madly in love and willing to spend tens of millions to celebrate it. She's got the money, so why not? And she wants to do this soon, while AE is still crazy about her," the insider said.
The source said that, as of this writing, the couple has not chosen a date to tie the knot, find a venue or finalize the guest list.
However, one thing was allegedly apparent – Chaz and Elijah wouldn't be invited unless they "behaved" and were "respectful" of Edwards.
"Either they accept it or they don't come, because Cher won't tolerate any negativity from her kids or anyone else. After being on her own for so long, she's excited about life again," the source said.
In November 2023, Radar Online also reported that Chaz and Elijah were apprehensive about Cher's alleged decision to revise her will, which would add Edwards to the mix.
"While some view Cher's gesture as a heartfelt testament to her affection, others are concerned about the implications it may have on her existing family dynamics. Cher's fortune has become a focal point in a passionate debate. Changing her will to leave her much younger boyfriend something is the best option -- while the worst option would be if she marries him and he gets EVERYTHING!" the source spilled.
