Saweetie is one of the most prominent female rappers in the hip-hop scene today, but before she amassed massive fame and success, the musician had to start from nowhere as there was a point in her life when she had no place to stay.

The rapper recently spoke to Power 106 Los Angeles for an interview with Brown Bag Mornings to promote her latest song, "Nani."

During the interview, the "ICY GIRL" songstress reflected on her past, saying she was too proud to tell her friends and family that she had nowhere to stay, so she couch-surfed.

"It was cool because people always wanted to be around. So I didn't have to worry about having a place to stay, but my homegirls knew what was going on," she said.

Since she didn't want to take up space in the place where she was staying, she would keep her clothes and other items in her car.

"But you know what? It was cool because when it was time to party, I didn't have to go home. I just had to go to my trunk," she added.

Saweetie said she would plan her weeks so that she could stay every night, but there would be times when she would stay with her friends and other family members.

Even though she was able to find solace at people's houses temporarily, being homeless had a negative impact on her, especially when she would go out to have fun.

"I would even feel bad about partying. I know I just made that comment, but it's just like- imagine not having the money, couch surfing, and then sometimes being in the club or being at parties," she said.

The rapper added that she would go home early because she felt she didn't deserve to be there.

Saweetie considered applying for jobs as a graduate, but it would derail her dreams of becoming a musician because working would take up most of her time.

Fortunately, the rapper found rooms on Craigslist, where she lived for a year.

Regardless of her situation at the time, the rapper had a positive outlook on life. She kept saying she would succeed within a year but also set a deadline. She said she would move back home if things didn't work out.

Saweetie was discovered nine months before her one-year deadline, and she signed a contract with a record label. Billboard reported that she landed a deal with Warner Bros. Records in 2018.
