Over the past years, Charli XCX has made a name for herself, especially within the underground music scene, as she continued releasing songs and albums. However, there was a point in her career when she was jealous of a peer who amassed massive success during the early days of her stardom.
The pop star recently spoke with Rolling Stone UK for an interview where she admitted to being jealous of Lorde around the time when she released the song "Royals" as it was a big hit.
"When 'Royals' came out, I was super jealous of the success that that song got, and that Ella got," she said.
She noted that lots of things were going through her mind at the time, saying Lorde had big hair and wore black lipstick, which she also did.
"You create these parallels and think, 'Well, that could have been me.' But it couldn't have because we're completely different people," she said.
Charli then noted that she wasn't making music that sounded like "Royals," but she read what she wanted into it because she felt insecure about her own work.
Fortunately, she overcame her envy and became good friends with the New Zealand-born singer.

"You get over it and then you try to figure out all the things that are unique about you and you pursue that, and then probably in five months' time you have a breakdown about something else," she said.
In other updates about the pop star, the singer will release her new album Brat on June 7. Fans have already been treated to some of the record's first few singles like "Club Classics," "Von Dutch," "B2b," and "360." The new album will contain 15 new tracks.
Charli XCX will also embark on a co-headlining tour with Troye Sivan, billed as Sweat. The tour aims to celebrate their individual successes as well as their "commitment to inclusivity and diversity."
