After seven seasons of being a judge, Katy Perry officially parted ways with American Idol, and she left the show with both hilarious and emotional notes after she tossed pizza into the crowd and paid tribute to the former contestants she handled.

According to Billboard, the pop star joined the panel of judges in 2018 alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. For the season 22 finale, the program celebrated Perry for becoming their family member for years.

During Sunday's airing, a compilation of throwback videos was shown. It featured some of the singer's best moments, including when her co-judge, Bryan, jump-scaring her. It also showed some of her most memorable outfits that she wore for the past seven years.

Perry also wowed audiences when she performed "What Makes a Woman" with Jack Blocker. She rose into the air in a 20-foot gown featuring the faces of contestants she had worked with during her run on the reality TV singing competition show.

In other moments during the finale, the pop singer recreated her infamous viral pizza-throwing video as she threw the food into the American Idol audience.

In a video shared on her official Instagram account, the pop singer wrote in the caption, "a pizza my heart will always be on the #idol stage."

Even though many people found the audience interaction hilarious, some commenters called her out for wasting food as the first pizza slice she threw eventually fell on the floor and was not caught by anyone.

"This is bad. Shouldn't throw food just like that," one wrote, while another added, "That was silly and disrespectful and childish."

"I'm a fan but this is kinda disrespectful. I'd be annoyed if it ruined my outfit. Id pick it up off the floor and throw it back at her white dress," one added.

The recent news comes months after Katy Perry appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she revealed that she would "probably" leave the show after being a judge for seven years.

She explained that although she loved being a judge and being on the show, the pop singer wanted to focus on her music career and release new material for fans.

"It's going to be a very, very exciting year for all pop star girlies," she added.
