Camila Cabello and Lil Nas X's connection goes far beyond their recent collaboration.
While on the way to celebrate the release of their new single, "He Knows," the pair got stuck in an elevator in Cabello's building. Although they were announced to be appearing at a Los Angeles gay club that night, they arrived over an hour late after the "extreme situation."
The "Havana" singer reveals that people were "dropping like flies" while dealing with extreme anxiety throughout the situation. While she says she and the "Old Town Road" rapper kept it cool, they had some underlying fear.
"Girl... We saw each other in an extreme situation," Cabello recounted to Rolling Stone. "Panic attacks were happening left and right, honey. To the right of me, Patrick Ta was fucking losing his mind. Tori, who works with me, was on the ground having a panic attack. People were dropping like flies emotionally, but me and Nas, we were cracking jokes - but were low-key terrified."
They were stuck inside for about an hour. Cabello rides in the same elevator everyday, now saying that the incident has forever changed the way she looks at it.
"We were in there for a good hour. It was crazy because it's the elevator in my building and I walk into that elevator every day and I've never seen it the way I saw it that night."
To make matters seem more dire, the group was warned by the "Montero" singer's security guard to stop talking in an effort to not take up as much carbon monoxide that would lead to people passing out. She goes on to say that the "trauma bond" brought them closer together as music partners.
"The mirrors were steamed up like it was a shower because it was so hot and there was no AC. Nas' security guard is like, 'I would keep the chatter to a minimum because you guys are about to start taking up all the carbon monoxide and that's how people pass out.' Nas was like, 'If we weren't f-ing panicking before, we sure are panicking now.' It was just so crazy. It brought us closer together though. Nothing like a trauma bond during a single release."
As they arrived at the club, Cabello and Nas decided to drink their fears away. They were seen partying throughout the night, even throwing condoms into the dancefloor at the club.
"Yes. That was the day the song came out. We were an hour late to the club and we got there and we were like, 'We're getting black-out drunk. This is a celebration of not just our song, but the fact that we did not get carbon-monoxide poisoning today.'"
"He Knows" is the second single from Cabello's upcoming album, "C, XOXO," which will be released on June 28. It follows lead single "I Luv It," featuring Playboi Carti, which she recently performed at Coachella with Lana Del Rey.
A music video for the duet will be released tomorrow. The fiery, hyper-pop single's visual is teased to be a steamy representation of the two partying at a club with different partners.
