In honor of his late mother, producer Metro Boomin will donate $100,000 to five women-focused nonprofits in his home city, St. Louis, MO.
In 2022, Metro's mother, Leslie Joanne Wayne, was tragically murdered by her husband, who then killed himself.
As a way of celebrating his mother's legacy, Metro Boomin decided to gift $20,000 each to five different St. Louis-based, women-focused charities: Almost Home, Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation, the Haven of Grace, the Little Bit Foundation and Parents as Teachers. Metro partnered with Rung for Women to organize the donation.
Leslie Gill, President of Rung, shared that the organization is "excited to partner with Metro Boomin in his work to lift up single mothers in St. Louis."
Rung is self-described as having been "created to fill an existing gap in services for women in St. Louis." Rung seeks to "cultivate a movement of women who understand that they can level themselves up and truly reach their fullest potential." The network will also be a key financial player in Metro's upcoming independent nonprofit foundation. Metro and Rung joined together with Amazon Access in December to raise funds for the different charities with the "Leslie Joanne Soirée" event.
"Inspired by the remarkable love he has for his late mother, [Metro Boomin] is demonstrating a commitment to women and to our community," stated Gill.
Metro released a statement, explaining his mother's impact and his appreciation for women, particularly single mothers.
"I've seen firsthand the work that goes into being a single mother. Mine was my inspiration and my hero," he said.
He continued, noting that it is "very important to me to pay it forward, because I see the same resilience and dedication in the women these organizations work with."
Metro and his late mother were the victim of harsh insults from rapper Soulja Boy, who went on a social media tirade against the producer earlier this month. The "Crank That" artist wished Metro a "Happy Mother's Day," knowing that his mother is deceased. He continued to hurl insults at the two before digging his digital claws into 21 Savage.
Soulja Boy later deleted his rant, apologized to Metro Boomin and said that he was going to attend therapy to work on his anger issues.
Metro is coasting off of two No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Hot 100: WE DON'T TRUST YOU and its sister album, WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU. The former features "Like That ft. Kendrick Lamar," which contains the controversial Lamar verse that lit the rap world aflame.
Metro Boomin threw his hat in the Drake-Lamar feud with the release of "BBL Drizzy," an instrumental that features a soulful voice singing "BBL Drizzy" over and over again.
