Morgan Wallen's new bar is set to open on Memorial Day weekend, but the country star ran into a problem when the Nashville Metro Council voted not to allow him to put up the sign with his name on it. More recently, the singer's mom came to his defense, slamming those who were against her son's signage.
According to Billboard, the council voted to reject plans for the musician's 20-foot external sign to be placed on his This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen establishment. Only three of the 33 members voted in favor of the sign.
Some council members cited Wallen's previous controversies as why they voted no.
"I don't want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who's throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs," council member Delishia Porterfield said, referring to the incident that happened in April wherein the musician allegedly threw a chair from Eric Church's bar's rooftop as well as Morgan's controversial comments in 2021.
Another council member, Jordan Huffman, expressed that the singer has given all of them a "bad name" because of his past comments and actions.
After Jordan mentioned that he didn't belong in the city, Morgan took to his Instagram stories to share an aerial shot of his sold-out concert in Nashville.
Country Chord shared the image on Instagram, in which the singer's mom, Lesli Wallen, slammed the Nashville Metro Council by commenting, "Way to go Morgan, the city of Nashville says 'Thank you for all of your help bringin in millions of revenue.'"
As of this writing, it's still unclear what the country star would do now that his signage was not approved.
Regardless, fans are waiting for the singer to open his new bar located at 107 4th Ave. in Nashville, which is near the Ryman Auditorium.
The new establishment is a partnership between the country crooner and TC Restaurant Group, the same company behind other singers' businesses like Jason Aldean's Kitchen + Rooftop Bar and Luke Bryan's 32 Bridge Food.
In other updates about Morgan, the singer continues to perform on his One Night At A Time Tour worldwide. His next concert will be on May 25, 2024, at the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, MO.
In addition, he will perform at several festivals, such as the Carolina Country Music Fest, the BST Hyde Park in London, and the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam.
