Taylor Swift is being called on by her fans to speak up on the Palestine conflict.
As the "Fortnight" singer performs in Europe on her new Eras Tour shows, Swifties are calling her out for staying silent on the recent events in Rafah. A group of Swifties have penned an open letter to the Grammy-winner, urging her to "Speak Now."
"@taylorswift13 your silence has been deafening and in times like these you should speak up!! #SpeakNow #SwiftiesForPalestine there are children being burned alive and beheaded in rafah so SPEAK NOW TAYLOR," a post that has amassed nearly one million views on X, formerly Twitter, reads.
The letter opens by affirming Swift that as one of the most globally significant artists in the world, she holds the power to inform and sway the opinion of the general public.
"As an internationally renowned and significant artist, your voice has the ability to impact and draw attention to crucial problems affecting millions of people worldwide. Today, I am writing to urge you to speak out against the current humanitarian crisis and decades-long genocide in Palestine."
The letter then lays out the situation currently occurring overseas, which it says "has reached a critical stage, especially in Rafah." They go on to state that an artist with as much publicity as Swift should shed light on the issue for those who may not be aware of the "severity of the genocide."
"Your influence transcends borders, and your words have the power to reach and activate an extensive audience, including people who are unaware of the severity of the genocide. Speaking out about the Palestinian genocide would not only be consistent with your history of advocating for the victims, but it could also encourage your millions of fans to learn and take action to help. By spotlighting the urgent needs of Palestinians, you could raise support for immediate humanitarian help. Your smallest action could make a significant difference in amplifying these pleas for pressing for real change."
As the #SwiftiesForPalestine hashtag reaches over 60,000 posts, fans of the "Getaway Car" singer are sharing photos from pro-Palestine rallies where they have carried signs calling for Swift to "take a stand" and take "Swift action."
"@taylorswift13 we are calling for you to speak up NOW. to donate to Palestinian families fleeing the bombing in Gaza NOW. to spread awareness about the genocide in Rafah NOW."
In the past, Swift has lightly touched on political events. Last year, the "Cruel Summer" singer shared a short Instagram post that urged her followers to register to vote on Vote.org. The post reportedly led to 35,000 registrations. Additionally, she fully endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020 ahead of the presidential election.
While she has not endorsed a candidate for the 2024 election, she has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In 2020, the singer called out then-President Trump over his comments regarding Black Lives Matter marches, after he had been "threatening violence" on supporters of the movement.
"After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? 'When the looting starts the shooting starts'??? We will vote you out in November," she posted, gaining nearly two million likes.
