Less than two years after their marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reportedly witnessed things going wrong in their relationship.

The couple, who wed in August 2022, has reportedly decided to take some space in the last bid to save their marriage. Time apart can help them determine whether their relationship is right for them, according to people close to the couple. Aside from discussing the status of the pair's union, they also detailed to Us Weekly the issues between them from the start.

One friend said that they already had different approaches to conflict from the start but their career demands "highlighted the emotional and physical distance between them" and exacerbated communication issues.

"Over time, Jennifer and Ben found it increasingly difficult to communicate effectively," the friend continued. "[and] small misunderstandings grew into significant arguments. They have fundamentally different approaches to conflict."

In addition, their issues are reportedly aggravated by their finances and parenting.

Lopez shares Emme and Max with Marc Anthony, while Affleck is a father to his and Jennifer Garner's kids: Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.

The revelation came after a separate source told The New York Post that Lopez's $90 million deal for her Las Vegas residency might be in jeopardy as her This Is Me... Now album and 2024 tour underperform.

"MGM is watching her not doing well on the road. They are very nervous," said the insider. "It's pretty rare you have a poor tour and then go to Vegas."

Lopez scored the deal to perform a 90-date show in Las Vegas. MGM reportedly offered $1 million per show to win the bidding war against Resorts World and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG).

Lopez's former publicist, Rob Shuter, spoke with The New York Post in March when it became clear that This Is Me ... Now was going to underperform all of her previous releases. It's only her second album to not hit the Top 10, with 2007's Brave narrowly missing, at No. 12.

"Jennifer's always been a marketing and PR genius, but her biggest miscalculation here is that she thinks the world is still interested in Ben and Jennifer's love story," Shuter said. "But no one cares about Bennifer anymore. The world has moved on."

An associate professor at West Virginia University, Elizabeth Cohen, also told USA Today that despite the hate and flop, there would be people who feel pleasure in watching rich people show they "really don't have it all."
